The WORST car you ever owned...

Post by Ponyguy » August 18th, 2019, 3:02 am

Gentlemen, let's start a new topic...
What is the absolute worst car (or SUV or truck) you ever owned... Which car did you wish you'd never laid eyes upon after you owned it a while?

I'll start with my last Mercury Sable.
Sadly, that Sable was the worst car I ever owned... it had the 3.8 engine, and the head gaskets were replaced twice, the trans got overhauled, A/C got serious repair work done twice, Cruise control quit, driver's door keypad didn't work, engine mounts broke, power antenna quit, rear wiper froze in mid-swipe, and every "system" on that car failed at some point in its life.
I bought it new in 1995; it was one of the last 1995 Sable Wagons built (Build Date March 31, 1995) at Chicago Assembly. I sold it for scrap in 2005 with <110,000 miles after it sat immobile in my driveway for about 2 years.

People ask me why I bought another Mercury...

86 Escort.
Bought it for $200. Master cylinder, and head gasket failed just after I sold it.
Never got the title sorted either. It changed hands 4 times on the same title.

I guess I've had pretty good luck with cars, motorcycles on the other hand...

I've owned a couple of Hondas that I cursed endlessly.

1982 650 Nighthawk, had the most irritating flat spot between 4,000 and 6,000 RPMS, could not ever get it sorted out.

1999 XR650L, was fun to ride, but it's lackluster oil system (3 qt. capacity) resulted in not one, but two wiped out cams and I once had to replace the head gasket, which required removing the engine from the frame. Once it got piston slap, I got rid of it.
